Newsletter - Bejing | ND North

August, 2016

OUR THEME this year is "REWRITING THE CHILDREN'S STORIES" To go along with the theme Laura Harverson wrote the following poem.

ADOPTION

Since our last newsletter eight children have been adopted. That makes seventeen so far this year. We celebrate each one. Next week our first child with Thalassemia will be adopted. What's so special about this is that in the past it was thought Thalassemia was a death sentence. We are excited that this way of thinking is changing here in China and that these children are being adopted.

OWEN

Is a nine year old boy with Thalassemia who arrived last month. Due to a lack of knowledge and short blood supply, he had been receiving only one transfusion a year. Typically children need a blood transfusion every three weeks so needless to say the annual transfusion plan left him very weak, very thin and with many medical issues. He was never able to attend school or play as a little boy should.

Recently a visitor asked him what GAMES he liked to play. He said, "sweeping" and "taking out the garbage." Read more of his story!

CONNIE

.....went from the doctors telling us "There is no hope" to "You don't understand, there is NO way this child should be alive." Please celebrate with us that after a year of one miracle after another, Connie is now CANCER FREE!

FORMULA

Thanks to donors and a very special formula company, Nature's One, we have been able to provide formula to vulnerable children in four government orphanages this past year. The difference that good nutrition in the first year of life makes is major and starts the children on the path towards good health.

Recently Nature's One donated even more so we are able to ship out to six orphanages.

SURGERY

Since the beginning of the year seventeen children's stories have been rewritten though surgeries. Cooper, pictured below, has started on that path. He still needs heart surgery but the rewrite has begun.

Currently a little boy, who is scheduled to come to New Day, after he is released from the hospital, is in ICU fighting for his life. Join with us in believing for a miracle, it will take one for his story to be rewritten.
