General

Where do these children come from?
Our children come from government run orphanages across China.

How do you determine which children to help?
The children who we are currently helping are here because the orphanages have requested our help to care for them. When we are presented with a needy child, we evaluate our recourses and try to find a way for them to come and join us.

How old are the children when they start attending preschool?
When the children turn two years of age, they are able to attend preschool from 10:15 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. When the children celebrate their 3rd birthday, they are then able to go to preschool from 9:15 a.m. until 11:15 a.m.

Are the children cared for by the same caregivers every day or do they have many different caregivers during their time here?
There is one caregiver who is in charge of caring for three children all day. Since the caregivers are on an every other day rotation, each child has two caregivers who predominantly care for them during their stay here. The only time that a child would change caregivers is when they move from one floor to the other. If the child is younger and requiring more care, they are placed upstairs with the babies. However, when their condition becomes less severe and they become a little bit older, they are then brought downstairs where the older children are cared for.

What is the difference between a “foster home” and an “orphanage”?
Being a foster home means that we are able to “foster” these children until they are adopted. The government orphanage where the child originally came from is still ultimately responsible (to CCCWA, adoption agencies, etc.) to ensure that the child is being properly cared for.

How is New Day Foster Home unique?
New Day Foster Home is an independent, nonprofit, and nongovernmental organization. We are not affiliated with political or religious groups, profit groups, and other nongovernmental organizations. Our sole aim is to help alleviate the pain and suffering of Chinese orphans born with physical handicaps; providing for their every physical and emotional need to give them a hope and a future and their very own loving family. All of the overseas staff serve at their own expense and do not receive any monetary compensation for the work that they do. We also strive to keep our operational costs to a minimum, ensuring that a large percentage of all donated funds are able to go towards helping the children.

Do your employees receive monetary compensation for what they do?
All of our Chinese staff members receive compensation for the work that they do. However, all of our overseas staff donates their time and services.

Child Sponsorship

What happens to a child who doesn't receive enough sponsors to fund their stay at New Day Foster Home?
All of the funding that we receive through child sponsorships goes into the same fund. So, even if some of the children don't have enough sponsors to cover all of their expenses, another child's surplus and other general donations will even out the imbalance. All the children of New Day Foster Home receive the same quality of care regardless of the number of sponsors that they have.

What happens when the child I am sponsoring becomes adopted?
When this happens, we will let you know that the child you are sponsoring has been adopted. We will then give you the opportunity to transfer your sponsorship to another child.

Do I continue to sponsor the child when they are placed into a foster family?
We would like you to continue sponsoring the child after they are placed within a foster family. We pay the foster families and the children still have many needs that we provided for them. Choosing the length of time that you would like to sponsor a child is your decision

When I sponsor a child, am I the only one helping or does New Day Foster Home get multiple sponsors for the same child?
Multiple sponsors are needed for each child who is cared for by New Day Foster Home. We limit how many sponsors each child can have at one time and once that limited is reached they are marked "Fully Sponsored" on the website.

Donations

Who supports New Day Foster Home?
A number of individuals and organizations support the Foster Home. Our supporters not only include individuals and businesses that are located outside of China, but a growing percentage of our support comes from within China.

How do corporations donate to New Day Foster Home?
Procedures for personal and corporate donations are generally the same. If you are a corporation that wants to give an in-kind donation instead of a cash donation, please let us know and we will work with you about the best way for you to send us your donation.

Are donations tax deductible?
Yes. Donations received through New Day Charities or Joy Fellowship are deductible for U.S. taxpayers and may be deductible for citizens of other countries. Donors will receive a statement at years end for tax filing purposes.

Does New Day Foster Home accept non-monetary donations?
Yes, we do. If you have something in particular that you would like to donate for our use, first check the needs page of our website to see if we are requesting the particular item that you would like to donate. If you don't see it on the needs page, contact us to see whether or not we can use the item in question.

What are donations to your general fund used for and where do they come from?
Donations from individuals and businesses that are given without any pre-designation are put into the general fund. The general fund provides the funds that are needed to cover our daily operation expenses such as heating, electricity, water, employee salaries, office supplies, etc. To see a full breakdown of our operating expenses click here.

If I donate for a particular need, will it only be used for the stated purpose?
Yes. We will only use your donation for the purpose that you have given it to us for. If that need has been met, we will let you know so that you can designate your gift for another Foster Home need.

Does New Day Foster Home fundraise?
We have not aggressively fundraised or hosted fundraising events. Our financial base has grown steadily by word of mouth.

How long does it take for New Day Foster Home to receive my donation?
Most donations are immediately available for our use. Donations given through Network for Good are available on the 15th day of the following month.

Visiting and Volunteering

How can I make arrangements to come and tour your facilities?

Can volunteers come and help care for the children?
Yes, we love volunteers! You can come and work with the children, especially if you have medical knowledge and expertise. Whether you want to come and help us for a few days, months, or years, we are always in need of assistance.

How many volunteers work with you through the course of a year?
Each year we have many volunteers who come and work alongside of us. The volunteers that work with us come from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. In addition to individual volunteers who come and help care for the children, there are many schools, colleges, and businesses that also come and give of their time and resources to help the children.

Adoption

How can I adopt one of the children that I have seen on the website?
Due to government regulations, we are not able to match our children with prospective families. However, there are agencies listed in our adoption section that can help connect you with children from China.

Can you give me information on a particular child to help me locate his or her file?
We want to carefully protect our children's privacy, so we do not release their personal identifying information to individuals.

If you have been matched with a child from New Day Foster Home there are some things you need to keep in mind.

The information in bios and monthly updates to sponsors are to give a general idea of the challenges our children face. This information is not intended to be a substitute for a complete and up-to-date referral packet from your adoption agency. Please keep in mind that in our communications, we always try to focus on a child's strengths, accomplishments, and positive developments, not in an attempt to gloss-over their often serious medical conditions, but in an effort to share a glimpse of their precious personalities.
New Day Foster Home is not a hospital. All medical information on each child is obtained from local Chinese hospitals. The Chinese medical system has its limits and is simply not on-par with the type of system we are accustomed to in the USA. There have been cases in the past when an adoptive family learns of the full extent of a child's medical need – sometimes serious – after the adoption is finalized. This is the reality of adoption from China, and adopting a child from New Day does not guarantee you a healthier child or even more accurate and comprehensive medical data.
NDFH is restricted by CCCWA and the SWI’s from providing medical information on a child directly to an adoptive family. All medical information must be obtained through CCCWA. Often medical files in the adoption profile are not updated as frequently as we'd hope, so as an adoptive family it is highly recommended that you ask for an updated medical file. And be sure that your agency asks pointed questions when requesting the update so as to encourage the orphanage to disclose all the details instead of simply providing a general physical and developmental update.
