Adopted

Welcome

This year we have been on a record pace for having children adopted - 13 since the last newsletter, making the total this year so far at 24 with Khloe leaving next week!

With so many adopted this gives room to bring in new children. This month we welcome Alex (nanophthalmos), Lily (heart), Lena (heart), Carissa (heart), Rebecca (heart), Ariana (cleft lip & palate and heart), Asa (Anal Atresia), Jewel (heart) and Benjamin (cleft lip & Palate).

Recent surgeries have included Sage & Ariana who had cleft lip surgery; Luke who had palate surgery; Jonathan & Joy who both had heart surgery and Asa had colostomy surgery.

Carissa
Carissa who has a very serious heart condition had such narrow bronchial tubes that she had to first have surgery to place three stents before they can do the surgery to repair her heart. The stents did improve her oxygen levels but she is still too weak to have the heart surgery. From the time she arrived in Beijing she has been in the hospital in ICU. Her short life has already seen many miracles and we believe for more so she can be totally healed.
As is the case with most charities we receive more requests for help then we are able to meet. It always gives us such pleasure when we can say yes. This month we were able to begin a new formula project in an orphanage that has in recent years experienced explosive growth. In 2008 they had 150 children – today that has increased to 620 children. They have seen this increase because in partnership with their local hospital they set up a PICU just for orphans. This has saved many children’s lives who would have died in the past. We are happy to partner with those who are progressively fighting to give orphans a chance. Next week we will be traveling to another very poor area to see what we might be able to do to help.

Water Cube

Movie Star

Summer fun! Although it has been hot, as most summers are, we have cooled off swimming in our pool, but not just our pool, we actually had the opportunity to swim at the Water Cube where the 2008 Olympics took place. That’s a gold medal wow! And no summer is complete without ice cream, picking pears, watching movies and being on TV. All this fun calls for rest (at least for us) but do the kids really nap?

This truly has been a wonderful and fun summer with so many wonderful visitors and interns. To each of our special partners we thank you for the privilege of working with you to reach more and more children.
