Please allow me to introduce our new arrivals. There is Melody (meningocele), Shanna (hearing impaired), Hannah (heart disease), Samuel (no legs), Raegan (heart disease), Timothy (spina bifida), Joshua (spina bifida) and George (spinal infection). Just a special note on George......
George arrived on September 23, 2009 from our foster home for older handicapped children in far western China to receive treatment for an undiagnosed condition causing open sores on his foot and tailbone. When he arrived, his tailbone was fully exposed, and doctors suspected gangrene had set in as part of his tailbone had rotted away. The effect is quite severe, as currently his doctor can touch his intestines through the open wound. His Beijing physicians hope to quickly diagnose the actual cause of this condition so that treatment can begin soon.
We’re very please to inform you that Sophie, Emily and Ruby have been adopted and that 15 more children been have matched.
On the surgery front it has been a very very busy couple of months. Camille (spina bifida), Ethan (Hypospadia), Timothy (Spina bifida), Emma (second surgery heart), Rosie (hydrocephalus), Hannah (heart- you can read more stories about Hannah on our blog), Joshua (spina bifida), Owen (colostomy reversal) and Claire (esophageal repair). Claire has had another miracle happen- you can read her story.
Recently the doctors at Fuwai Heart Hospital asked one of our staff why the New Day children seem to heal so fast. They have noticed that more often then not it seems that our children recover faster or what starts off as a serious case ends up being a simple procedure. They noted that these orphans without parents seem to have something special working in their favor. Our staff offered as a reason the prayers of the New Day staff and our many friends.
New Day South is closer to becoming a reality. This dream has gone beyond the discovery stage. We’ve counted the cost, made a plan, and we are now moving forward. Check out this new project.
Check out these great pictures of the last days of Summer which include the new merry-go-round, a fire drill that was so efficiently executed that we only got one photo, ice cream (kids and ice cream always make for lots of fun), and some very happy birthdays.
Finally here are some pictures of a publicity event to help raise awareness of the very real formula need among the orphan population. New Day’s formula projects alone have more then doubled in enrollment in the last couple of months.
