Medical Clinic Planning

On Tuesday May 8, 2007 a team left for Tacheng to visit the orphanage and elderly care facility. The team consisted of Karen, Grace, Dr. Hatter and Sam Campbell, RN. The team's first stop was in Urumqi where a representative from Civil Affairs, as well as a former Director met the team. While in Urumqi the team looked at possible medical equipment for the medical clinic in Tacheng. The following day the team traveled to an orphanage in Urumqi to tour the facility.

From there the team traveled to Tacheng. The Director of the orphanage and several staff met the team at the airport. They were taken to the orphanage and given a tour of the facility. Karen and Grace were extremely impressed with how much the orphanage had accomplished since their last trip. Later that evening after dinner with local officials, the team and hosts returned to the orphanage for a presentation by the children. The next morning the team met with the Director of Civil Affairs, and the Director of the elderly care facility, who is also the physician of the facility, to draw up plans for the medical clinic.

While in Tacheng the team went to check on a baby at a local foster family. The 15 month old has Spinal Bifida, and severe Hydrocephalus. He had been taken to the hospital in Urumqi where they were told they could not help him. Karen and Grace decided to bring the little one back to Beijing in hopes that he could be helped.
