We thought that Tristan was unstoppable.  We knew that he had serious problems with his lungs, but we were believing and hoping for his healing, and Tristan certainly wasn’t letting anything hold him back.

On Sunday morning we woke to news that we could hardly bear to believe; that, after being rushed into hospital in the middle of the night, Tristan had passed away.

He came to us at just over a year old, with a list of medical issues and a winning smile.  We were blessed to have six months with an incredible little boy, knowing his joy, energy, and his affectionate nature; it really seemed like he was unstoppable.

Tristan was always ready for adventure, and would soon have left us to join the forever family that he was matched with, but instead he’s gone to a place where he is totally free from all physical pain and limitations, running and playing with his Forever Father.

While we know that Tristan is truly healed and home now, and we absolutely trust in the goodness of his Forever Father, we are not ‘okay’ with this ending of his earthly story.  We don’t understand it, and we miss him.  We grieve with, and for, the forever family that he never got to meet.

It’s because we are not ‘okay’ with endings like this that we continue to care for children with serious medical needs like Tristan’s.  It’s why we keep fighting for them.  It’s why we choose to hold onto hope.
