Guy’s life story is short. He was abandoned when he was just two days old, taken into the orphanage, and found to have serious GI issues. At this point he came into our care, weighing just 2.1 kg and urgently needing surgery. He had two surgeries, and was also diagnosed with heart disease and Down syndrome. A month later, he was stable enough to leave the hospital and move into the critical care unit at New Day South, but in November his condition worsened. By January his life was in serious danger, and on January 14, his heart stopped beating and the doctors were not able to save him.

His story is short, but it is a story of hope. We did all that we could for him, even when the doctors strongly hinted that there was no longer any hope. Our whole reason for being is to have hope for the hopeless, so we hoped for Guy. He was so frail and had so much going against him, but throughout his short time with us, we held onto hope, and his life makes us more determined to keep hoping because that is what we are called to do; to bring hope in hopeless situations. It may not always turn out the way that we would like it to, but we will still hold onto hope.

We grieve for Guy, and will remember his sweet little smile. He was worth fighting for.
